Our BA fligh was comfortable. They certainly treat you better than Air Canada on international flights. The seats actually recline to a useful tilt, we had a hot breakfast and a decent curry for our evening meal. Sheila looked out when we were flying over the Sahara desert. Aftre that we were over water until we landed in Cape Town. The pilot took us on a tour around the Cape of Good Hope and Table Bay and Table Mountain before landing.
The immigration officer actually welcomed us to South Africa. How often does that happen in Canada?
When we were picking up our luggage which almost magically appeared since the last time we saw it was in Halifax, there was a beagle working dog checking the bags, probably sniffing out drugs.
Mathieu met us at the airport and took us to our guest house in Stellenbosch, a predominantly Afrikaans town where the main Afrikaans university is. When we arrived there was no electricity. South Africa is experiencing a nationwide power shortage so they do load sharing, shutting down power in rotation for two hours at a time. We has lukewarm coffer and some great cookies while waiting for our room to be ready. Below in the view of the tower which is part of the roof at Bonne Esperance where we are staying with one of the mountains in the back ground that surround the town.
I can only update the blog when the power is on, so there maybe some delays in updates. Don't be concerned if you don't hear from us.
